| "Keep In Touch!" |
|
|
Proof that you don't have to keep in touch regulary to enjoy each others' company! Kim Parisi Marks, Peper Goodell Day, Beth Nicholau Fotos, Tricia DiJohn Campise and Joe Campise
|
Famous last words.
We said them at graduation, then never seemed to do it. Why? Because life is busy and gets in the way. It's impossible to stay in touch with everyone you like. If you're like most, you stay in contact with a few close friends and that's it.
But that's OK.
That's what reunions are for! And for those who came to any of the 20th reunion events, we were reminded how nice it is to get back in touch with old friends. Just because you aren't in contact on a regular basis, doesn't mean you are any less happy to reconnect!
Some of us have moved away and phycially can't see old friends. Others have stayed nearby but are too busy with our own lives... or quite frankly, don't want to stay in touch. But coming together as a whole is still fun and rewarding, and - if nothing else - reminds you of where you've come from.
In reading comments from the surveys to date, it is clear that many attendees were surprised to find that they had as much fun as they did. They were surprised to remember what a fun group of people we went to school with - even if they aren't all your best friends.
Gone are the "cliques" from high school and the petty things that teenagers create. Instead, the room was filled with grown adults who have created their own unique and interesting lives based around their personalities and interests. It was quite a sight.
So - what's next? Well, we all go back to our normal, routine lives and "business as usual." Maybe we send out a few extra holiday cards this year and send a few more emails every once-in-a-while to attempt to keep in touch.
You can do more, if you want. You can keep your profile updated on this website, which is now funded for the next 5 years. You can connect with friends on Facebook, if that's your thing, and have the ability to peer into others' lives to stay in touch. You can send emails through this website to classmates who you haven't seen, but remember fondly.
However you want to keep in touch - it's up to you. And if all else fails - just plan to attend the next reunion!

| One Month Away - Where Has the Summer Gone? |
It's hard to believe our 20th reunion is a month away! And while no one wants to go back to school, that is exactly what we are about to do.
Your reunion committee has been working hard to find "Missing" classmates and to plan the details of the weekend for you to enjoy.
Your turn! Let us know you are coming.
Seriously... pull the trigger today. Why? Because we are in the final stage of making decisions that can have a positive or negative affect on the events. Help us make better decisions by RSVP-ing and purchasing your tickets today.
Our objective is to make every classmate feel welcome.
We understand not everyone will attend, but we hope you all feel invited and welcome. The class of '89 was always the strongest in school while we were there. We hope to have the biggest and best reunion too! Who knows what postive opportunities might emerge from reconnecting with old friends... or maybe getting to know someone that you never knew!
We can still use your help!
We're close, but not done. Check out the Help Wanted page to see if you can be of help. Right now, we are looking for someone to help us print banners for free (or a reduced rate).
Embassy Suites Room Block
Please don't drink and drive. If you live any distance away from DG, join us at the hotel! The party will start with complimentary cocktails each night from 5-7pm in the hotel atrium. Sunday's brunch will also be there! The rooms are large and good for sharing or continuing the party.
If you plan to stay at the Embassy Suites, please book your room by August 25.
See you in a month!

Here's what you should do (please!)

2. RSVP for the other events during the weekend on the RSVP page (picnic, post-game party, school tour, etc.)
3. Book your hotel room by August 10 if you plan to stay overnight (recommended) on the HOTEL INFORMATION page
4. RSVP for GOLF by August 1 if you want to play... this event requires
advance booking, so we need your cooperation if it is to happen
5. Send us photos - both past and present - to be represeted in a slide show
6. Check out the Help Wanted page to see how you can lend a hand!
Why do you need to do all of this NOW?!?
We want you to enjoy each event throughout the reunion weekend, and that means we need to plan properly for you. Help us plan for you by RSVP-ing today!
We need to make financial decisions regarding the menu and more at Emmett's - so please buy your ticket today if you plan to attend. At the very least, please RSVP now for that night to indicate that you will attend... and purchase your ticket closer to the date.
Hotel Block to Expire!
We have secured a great rate at the Embassy Suites in Lombard that includes free cocktails before the reunion and a free hot breakfast on Sunday morning. There is limited supply, so please book your room there today! (You can always cancel closer to the date if plans change...)

| June Planning Update: Registrations Going Stong! But we Need Your Help! |
We are thrilled to report that as of June 3rd, 73 people have purchased tickets for Saturday night's main reunion event at Emmett's Ale House. This is a great number so early out!
Please purchase your tickets ASAP if you plan to attend.
Doing so will help us plan a better quality event for you, as the numbers make a huge difference. Seriously, what are you waiting for?
Don't Forget to RSVP for the other events too.
Please also take a moment to RSVP for any of the events that you plan to attend - not just Saturday night. Thanks!
Help us make contact with "Missing" classmates!
We want to ensure that everyone is invited to attend and feels welcome at our 20th. Furthermore, we want the ability to invite all of our classmates to reunions in the years to come, so we need a good database of contact information. If you have any phone, email or address information for anyone on the "Missing" list, please contact us.
Upload Your Photos
Help us ensure that you and your friends are represented in any slide shows we create. Take a moment to scan photos from high school and upload them to the Photo Album page. In addition, please upload a current shot of you in your profile and a family (or other photo) shot to the Look at Me Now album on the Photo Albums page. You can also email us photos.

| March Planning Update: Reunion Venue Selected! |
|
|
Half of the Reunion Planning Committee was able to gather in late February for our second meeting. Hi all. As you can see, we've selected Emmett's Ale House in downtown Downers Grove as the main reunion venue. We are really excited about this venue and wanted to share the following information with you, if you are interested.
Top Reasons Why This Venue Rocks:
1. The price is right! We are working hard to keep costs reasonable, even though most of you indicated that cost would not a determining factor for your attendance. We are able to get much more for our money at this venue than anywhere else we found.
2. We are the first-ever Buy-Out! No one has ever bought-out the entire venue at Emmett's before! We feel priveledged to be the first to take over the whole place - just for us. We'll have use of the bar, main restaurant space, private party room and outdoor patio. Plus, the staff will walk people through the brewery area and teach you about the brewing process, if you are interested. You'll be able to walk around and mingle through the various areas - much more interesting than a hotel ballroom or tent.
3. You asked for something convenient and different. Many of you took the time to take the online survey we created. Most of you (37%) didn't really care where we hold the reunion, as long as you have the opportunity to connect with old friends. The next majority (25%) wanted the location to be convenient to Downers Grove. 24% of you wanted the venue to be something cool and different from just a hotel ballroom, which only 7% wanted. So - we've given you what you've asked for at the lowest possible price. There are other fun venues out there which are much more expensive. Let's get this reunion under our belt with as many attendees as possible, and then maybe we can get even more creative (and expensive) for the next reunion.
4. Great Food and Beverage. If you've been to Emmett's Ale House, you know that they brew their own beer and have an excellent menu. We are able to offer you a premium-brand open bar for 5 hours with quality liquour brands, Emmett's beers and domestic beers as well. We'll provide food stations that will fill you up with quality food - much better than rubber chicken found in most hotel ballrooms!
5. We're celebrating Downers Grove. We figured that for our 20th reunion, we should go back to where it all began. Some of us haven't really been back in 20 years. Having all of our events within a few blocks on Main Street Downers Grove around Homecoming weekend just seemed like a good thing to do.
We researched more than 30 different venues in the area and have lots of ideas for the next few reunions, as there are many places we can go. We want as many of our classmates to attend the 20th reunion as possible, so we did our best to keep costs reasonable - while still providing you with a quality event.
After this reunion, we'll send another online survey to get your feedback on this and future reunions. We've got plenty more left to plan!
We're working on finalizing as many details as possible right now and will open up registration on March 31. In the meantime, please help us encourage other classmates to complete their profile so that we can get contact details into our database.
See you in September!

| February Reunion Planning Update: Survey Results |
Thanks to those of you who have completed your profile on this website. Please encourage anyone you are in touch with to take a few moments to complete their profile by March 15. Building up our database is important for the success of this and future reunions.
Thanks For Your Feedback
Thanks to all of you who took the online survey (88 classmates as of Feb. 10) with your opinions regarding the reunion weekend. We are listening to you as we make plans. Here is what we've learned:
-
80% of the respondants plan to attend, some with guests and some without
-
20% of the responsdants are still undecided (schedules and travel cost being the two main factors)
- cost is not an important factor for 80% of you (but in this economy, we are doing our best to keep things reasonable - yet still fun and nice)
- most of the respondants plan to make a weekend of it and attend Friday night's game, the post-game party, Saturday's reunion, and possibly brunch
- the majority of the respondants don't care where the reunion is, but you would like it to be convenient around DG, and you'd also like a "different" type of venue (not a banquet room)
- most of you would prefer to keep things casual, instead of getting all dressed up.
Thanks to those who provided suggestions for venues, suppliers, etc. We read all of your comments and either discussed or researched your recommendations.
Check back to this website on, or after, March 31. You will be abe to see all of the details and register to attend at that time. We encourage you to register early (this will help us know how many people to plan for), and so we will offer a special "early-bird," discounted, rate.
If you have questions or comments at any time, please email the committee to share your thoughts with us. We can always use help in searching for people, so let us know if you are interested in joining the search committee as well.

| Update on the Reuinon Planning: Website and Basics |
|
|
A few members of the reunion committee met at Emmett's Ale House in DG in September. We have reunion committee members all over the US - join us!
|
Hey there! We are off to a great start with the reunion so far. Here's a little blog on the planning process to keep you up-to-date. We are still looking for volunteers who want to get involved in some aspect of the reuinon planning! If you are interested, please contact us at dgnclassof89@yahoo.com.
You may have seen us out on Classmates.com and/or Classreport.org. Both of those sites have been very helpful to us in starting the search for our former classmates. As of November 15, we have located more than 140 of our former classmates through one vehicle or another.
We are changing our official website to www.dgn89reunion.com , as it offers much better capabilities. We ask that you all complete a Classmate Profile here on this website, so that we have one central database to use moving forward.
We have created a short suvey designed to solicit your feedback so that we plan a reunion that you will want to attend next year. If you haven't already, please take this survey today - or hopefully before December 15, 2008 (just so we have your suggestions in time to actually act on them).
Our reunion will coincide with Homecoming at DGN, so that should add some ceremony and excitement to the weekend. We are in touch with the school, which now does a cool Alumni Tent at the game.
As soon as we have the venue and pricing information available, we will open up the official "registration" process for the reuinion. You will want to visit this website occasionally to see the latest updates as plans unfold, to check out the profiles of old friends, and to RSVP/Register for the reunion events.
Feel free to post your own blog on any topic (well, almost any topic) here on this page, along with photos.
This is your space!!
